Our Setting & Heritage

Flying Pig Lets was once a busy dairy farm dating back 400 years. Now it is a peaceful smallholding comprising the original farmhouse and traditional stone barns surrounding the yard, including those once used to house and milk the cows.

The Old Milking Parlour has a rich history of welcoming people and connecting them to the land. Long before we arrived, it served as a traditional working dairy farm, later evolving into a bunkhouse for walkers and an outdoor adventure centre.

We have carefully converted it into a restful haven where couples, families, and four-legged friends can unwind and reconnect with nature. Though the purpose of the buildings has changed over centuries, their stone walls still carry the quiet rhythm of the land that shaped them.

Flying Pig Lets sits along a quiet country lane on the side of a tranquil valley. From every angle, green fields stretch away, shifting in color with the changing seasons. In winter, "dragon's breath" mist drifts softly across the valley floor. In summer, swallows and red kites swoop high overhead against vast blue skies.

The daily soundtrack is pure countryside — wild birdsong, friendly animal calls from the fields, and the occasional tractor trundling past down the lane. It’s a gentle reminder that this remains a living, working countryside where nature and traditional farming co-exist.

Visitors often remark on the deep sense of calm they feel here. The pace encourages you to slow down, notice the breeze through the ancient oaks, watch passing clouds, and observe the wildlife that calls these fields home.

For all its peaceful seclusion, Flying Pig Lets is far from isolated. Just 3 miles down the road lies the historic market town of Llandovery — a warm gateway town rich in heritage, independent boutiques, cafes, and pubs.

Geographically, the cottage is perfectly positioned between two of Wales' most dramatic mountain landscapes: the Brecon Beacons (Bannau Brycheiniog) to the south and the wild Cambrian Mountains to the north. Both offer vast skies, rugged ridges, and endless hiking trails straight into wild country.

This region is shaped as much by history as by geography. Ruined castles stand watch over river valleys, subterranean show caves wind beneath the hills, and ancient Roman goldmines invite exploration.

When the mountains give way to the sea, two distinct coastlines sit within an hour's drive. To the west lies a wild, dramatic Atlantic coast with soaring cliffs; to the south, a gentler shoreline with sheltered sandy bays, quiet coves, and estuaries.

Seasonal boat trips from coastal hubs like New Quay, Tenby, and St Davids offer unforgettable marine encounters — from bottlenose dolphins, harbour porpoises, grey seals, and basking sharks to offshore colonies of puffins, razorbills, guillemots, and kittiwakes on Skomer Island.
